Summer Lovin’ Free Adoption Special

ACTion Programs for Animals offers free adoptions in July

Las Cruces, New Mexico – It’s that time of year again! Beginning Saturday, you may adopt a dog or cat for free during the entire month of July as part of ACTion Programs for Animals’ Summer Lovin’ adoption special.

Check out APA’s adoptable animals at www.actionprogramsforanimals.org or visit the APA facility at 800 W. Picacho from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays or by appointment. Exceptions to the July Summer Lovin’ promotion include puppies under six months and P.A.W.S. prison program graduates.

APA only offers free adoptions one month per year – in July, and the nonprofit rescue has plenty of dogs and cats available. Although the adoption fee is waived, any donations from adopters and visitors to the adoption and education center are appreciated. APA goes through hundreds of pounds of dry dog food and cat food each month, as well as kitty litter and cleaning supplies.

APA will also hold two off-site adoption events in July:

– Saturday, July 22 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at Sam’s Club, located at 2711 N. Telshor Blvd.

– Sunday, July 30 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at PetSmart located at 2200 E. Lohman Ave. (next to Old Navy)

About ACTion Programs for Animals:

APA was founded in 2009 and began with a focus on helping keep animals from entering the shelter through programs like the still-running pet food bank. In May 2012, the Dona Ana Pets Alive! campaign was started – the groups’ direct rescue and re-homing effort to help the community reach its No Kill goal as soon as possible. This campaign concentrates its efforts on rescuing animals abandoned at the municipal animal shelter, with a focus on the ones most at-risk, which are large/unruly dogs, heartworm-positive dogs, pit bull mixes, long-term dogs, shy/timid small dogs, cats and hundreds of kittens.

To learn more or to get involved, call the APA information line at 575-644-0505. Call the adoption center at 575-571-4654 or visit the center at 800 W. Picacho from 12 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays. For more information, visit www.actionprogramsforanimals.org and www.facebook.com/APALasCruces.
