ASCMV Needs Volunteers To Walk Court Held Dogs

The court hold dogs at the ASCMV shelter, and they need to be walked as they are waiting to be fostered. Please, we need your help, as these dogs have not been out for ages! If you can just come for one hour to walk a couple of dogs it would make a big difference to them and we will be infinitely thankful to you. If you're interested please send me an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it on when you can make it and for how long, so I can arrange it. We have a total of twenty-one dogs desperately needing a walk. If you can recruit people for just walking these dogs it would be great!!! I'm willing to train anybody who is willing to walk dogs, especially dogs with a lot of energy stored-up as are these court holds.

PUPPY & BASIC OBEDIENCE CLASSES

The Dog Obedience Club of Las Cruces, Inc. has been offering dog training classes in Las Cruces since 1971. Currently we’re offering a 6 week course in puppy and basic obedience.

Classes will be taught at Hermosa Heights Park, (a.k.a. the dog park) a small fenced park across from Hermosa Heights Elementary School .

DOCLC’s training methods use positive reinforcement and praise rather than harsh corrections. Our goals are to help you and your dog become an effective obedience team and to teach your dog to be a better family member.

DISCOUNTS for returning DOCLC students, spayed or neutered dogs, and dogs adopted from the Doña Ana County Humane Society, or other recognized rescue organization.

Towels Needed

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley is in great need of towel donations. Please get the word out that anyone who has towels to donate can drop them by the shelter during their regular business hours or leave them at the door if the shelter is closed.

Towels are used in bleach solution trays throughout the facility that staff and volunteers step in to prevent the spread of disease, and the bleach eats away at the material over time and destroys the towels. They are also needed for grooming, as cat cage liners, etc. The shelter can never have too many towels, in other words.

ASCMV is located at 3551 Bataan Memorial W. or call 575-382-0018. Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday 12pm-6pm, Saturday - Sunday 12pm-5pm.

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley (ASCMV) is in urgent need of the following as volunteers.

  • Rescue/transport
  • Foster Families
  • Adopters including helping in providing multiple offsite adoption events and opportunities
  • Adoption counselors (bilingual) to assist the public at the shelter
  • Counselors to work with families who arrive at the shelter to surrender animals or those interested in establishing a pet help line to assist families to problem solve in order to keep their pet are also needed.
  • And more!

Contact the shelter 575-382-0018 to speak with the new volunteer coordinator, Maria Chavez.
